Remove stem ends and discolored leaves from sprouts. Rinse.
Step 2.
Bring sprouts, ½ cup water and salt to a boil in a 2 quart saucepan over medium-high heat.
Step 3.
Lower heat, cover, and simmer, shaking pan once or twice to redistribute sprouts until tip of knife inserted into brussels sprouts center meets no resistance, 8 to 10 minutes.
Step 4.
Drain well and serve with ground black pepper and butter.
