Margins collapse. When the margins of two elements are side by side, the greater margin of the two is used, the lesser one disappears, collapses.

Only setting the bottom & left margins on elements can help prevent accidently breaking working parts of a project.

When setting the width or heigth of an element, the padding will be added to that, resulting in an element with larger size than set. Same goes for the border.
